Charpy-V Notch Test

The resistance of materials and welds against sudden impacts is measured by the Charpy notch test. It is a high strain-rate test that involves striking a standard notched specimen with a controlled weight pendulum swung from a set height.The amount of energy absorbed by the sample gives us the notch strength. We can perform the notch test at temperatures as low as -196°C according to EN, ASME, API and AWS standards.
